Appollos W. Harrison started out in Philadelphia in 1845 as a seller of books, maps, and ink. His primary location was at 10 S. 7th, and it remained on S. 7th until 1861. His occupation changed to "Perfumery & Ink" in 1857, and by 1861, his was listed as "Perfumery" only. A large ad in the 1853 Directory listed all of his products under "Harrison's Columbian Perfumery." This list included 14 hair preparations, one of which was the Columbian Hair Dye. The product "Harrison's Tonic Stimulant" was not a hair preparation.
