The earliest ad I've found for this product was from 1837 (See below). At that time it was being concocted in America from a recipe that was from a Dr. Stillman in Europe. Later on I found one called Ferran's Circassian Hair Oil, but I could not tell if this one pre-dated Scoville's or not. Amon Scoville put his on the market around 1853. A package/label I saw said it was entered according to an act of congress in 1861 (trademark registered).

The 1873 Scoville Almanac listed two sizes of the Hair Oil, but so far, only one is known.
