According to the Wilson's, H.H. Warner was very successful in the Safe
business in the early 1870s. In the mid-70s, he started getting interested in the medicine business, and in 1880, he started selling Warner's Safe Cure. He marketed quite a few preparations, and there are many bottle collectors who collect just Warner's bottles. Apparently, by 1883 he had offices London and Toronto and by the 90s added a few more countries. In 1892, Warner sold his company to an English firm for over $3 million, but it came back to him in 93 when the firm was unable to pay. The company was sold again around 1900 to another British firm, and this time it stayed. Warner lost his fortune in the early 1900's and went to Minneapolis to try in vain to start up a new company. The products were still being marketed in 1944 on a small scale.
Ed Ojea, together with Jack Stecher has put together another excellent book on Warner's called "Warner's Reference Guide."
