Van's Hair Restorers
This product was sold by Allen and Co. in Chicago at least as early as 1893. They were initially in the Inter Ocean Building. By 1895 the company was called The Mexican Medicine Co. They were at 413 Dearborn in 1898, and by 1909, they had moved to 309 Washington. They were in business at least until 1909. According to Fike, the Hair Restorative was advertised at least as late as 1923. There was also a "Van's Persian Hair Restorative" for sale in 1896 and 1901 Morrison & Plummer catalogs. In 1901, the ad mentioned the name "Van Husan" in conjunction with the product, and indicated that both of these products came in pint or 1/2 pint size bottles. A 1909 article in the Journal of the Kansas Medical Society said that this product contained a salt of lead and that it was being made by Dwight T. Sprague & Co. of Chicago.
