I found Thomas P. Spencer listed as early as 1869 in New York. He registered a Patent in 1874 (Patent #152,183), but it was for the bottle, not the preparation. Spencer also apparently patented two other bottles the same year. They were both busts, and titled: "Beecher" and "Granger." All three bottles were listed for sale in a 1990 Harmer Rooke Galleries Auction Catalog.
