Edgar Levy, of Natchitoches Louisiana registered the brand name "Promotone" as a trademark in 1909. The products covered under the trademark included a "Tonic and Stimulant for the Hair and Scalp." He said he had been selling the brand since 1907. His business was called the Promotone Mfg Co.
