A. Felix Pratt, of Montpelier, Vermont, registered a Patent for a Hair Tonic in 1888 (Patent #376,809). He claimed it would remove dandruff, and restore the hair to its original color and luster. The composition consisted of 16 ounces of alcohol, one pound of glycerine, 4 ounces of lac sulphur, and 4 hen's eggs. Ingredients were just mixed together well and bottled. In the 1890 Montpelier Directory, Pratt was listed as the Proprietor of "Great French Hair Tonic."
