William P. Thomas and Joseph F. Boardman, both of Elko, Nevada, patented this "improvement in Hair-Restoratives" in 1871. The preparation was "to be used to restore the hair to bald scalps of the human head." They called it the "Nevada Natural Hair Restorative of White Sage." It was made by the following recipe.
The nature of the said invention consists in boiling white sage, in the proportion of six pounds green and three pound dry, in a gallon of soft water, and mixing therewith, after it has boiled down to two quarts, one-half ounce of oil of bergamot and a pint of alcohol.
