This product was advertised along with Mitchell's Hair Tonic in the 1863 New York City City Directory. The following is a partial transcription:
MITCHELL'S COCOA-CREAM
Instantly imparts a dark brilliant lustre and a silk-like softness to the hair. It possesses all the peculiarly bland and delicate properties of cocoa-nut oil, in the highest possible state of purity and fragrance. It preserves and beautifies the hair-produces a rich, luxuriant and rapid growth, and renders it beautifully dark and glossy. It is cooling and emollient in its influences upon the skin-cures all cutaneous eruptions, and renders the scalp white, soft and healthy. In every respect it is the most perfect dressing for the hair in the world. It is the cheapest because its effects are the best and most lasting.
