McGilvroy's Hair Tonic
Minnie McGilvroy, of Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada, registered a Patent in 1891 for a Hair Tonic (Patent #381,102). She said its purpose was to restore the laxity of hair and restore and preserve the natural color of the hair. The preparation was composed of 2 oz. of alcohol, 2 oz. of oil of onion, 2 oz. of oil of cabbage, 1 oz. of bay rum, 1 oz. of oil of parsley, 1 oz. of salt, 1 dram of borax, 1 dram of sulphur, and 1/2 dram of aqua ammonia.
