Lovet's Wahpene
Hezekiah T. Lovet was selling his "Wahpene" in New York from 1853 until at least 1861. His business addresses included: 114 Chambers (1853-5), 762 Broadway (1856-7), and 85 Bleeker (1858-61). He called his place of business in 1859 "Professor Lovet's Hair Dressing Establishment." Apparently, Joseph Burnett (see Burnett) was selling this preparation for Lovet before he invented his own "Cocoaine." Bottle picture courtesy of George Waddy.
