Lory's Hyperion Fluid
Joseph Lory, of Memphis, Tennessee, patented the formula for his "Hair Dye" in 1869 (Patent #88,793). The preparation was made by (1) boiling 1 ounce of lac-sulphur in 8 ounces of distilled water until it is reduced to 7 ounces, (2) straining or filtering it, (3) dissolving eighty grains of silver nitrate in 1 ounce of distilled water and add 1 drachm of liquor ammoniae, (4) mix the two parts together and strain again.
