John F. Leverton was a Hairdresser in Portsmouth, N.H. from the mid 1860s until around 1876. He was initially at 39 Market, then, in 1873, he moved to "Under Franklin House." His last listing in 1875 was at 10 Congress. I've seen ads for his Dye as early as 1867 in Directories. The last reference to them I've seen was in the 1875 John F. Henry, Curran & Co. catalog. An 1875 Ad indicated that over 10,000 people were using the dye.
