Anness R. Kinyon, of Downer's Grove, Illinois, registered a Patent for her Hair Restorative in 1876 (Patent #172449). The preparation was made by: (a) boiling about a quart of well-packed leaves and branches of grape vine in a pint of water using a porcelain kettle, (b) after the fluid is reduced to about half, strain it, and add 1/2 dram of salt, 1 dram of castor oil, 1/2 dram of alcohol, and 2 drops of wintergreen.
