This product was invented by William Johnson, A Perfumer in New York City. In 1848 his business was at No. 6 Courtland Street. By 1849, the business was a called Johnson & Goodenough, and they were at 128 Nassau Street. Also by 1849, they started saying that the preparation was invented by German Chemist Julius Woehler.
