Hover's Hair Dye
The majority of the information in this article was extracted from an article about Hover's Ink written by Todd Von Mechow in the Feb, 1990 issue of the Antique Bottle & Glass Collector magazine.

Joseph E. Hover was first listed in Philadelphia in 1840 as a Silversmith. In 1841, still listed at 1 Broad Street, he began to be listed as an Ink Manufacturer. In 1842, he moved his business to 105 North Third Street. He apparently was doing very well, and in 1843 he began to extensively advertise his Black Ink. In 1847, he introduced a second product: an Adamantive Cement for mending broken china, Etc. Then, by 1851, he had moved again. This time to 144 Sassafras (Race) Street. Apparently, it was around this time when he started selling his Hair Dye's.

Joseph Eves Hover Jr. began working with his father around 1869, and by 73 he was a partner in Joseph E. Hover & Co. Hover Retired in 1886 after 45 years in the business.
