Friend D. Hitchcock was a Jack-of-all-trades in New Haven Connecticut in the mid-1800s. In 1848, he was listed as a "Machinist," in 53, a "Locksmith," and from 55 to 67, he was a "Peddler." The only reference to him related to the hair business was in 1852, when he was listed as a "Perfumer." It is not known whether or not during his "Peddler" days he was still selling the Tricopherous. Putnam said that there was a "Hitchcock's Hair Dye" that was advertised in 1858, but I don't know if it was the same Hitchcock.
