Gallett (A.)- Bear's Oil
Auguste Gallett was a Hair Dresser in Philadelphia starting around 1830. By 1838, he was a Wigmaker. His business started out at 129 Chestnut, and moved to 38 South 4th around 1838. He was still listed as a Wigmaker at the same address in 1847. Bear's Oil was used widely at that time, and distributed by many other manufacturers as well. The 1878 Druggists Handbook shows the formula for Bear's Oil as: 2 ounces of l of citronella, and 1 gallon of cotton-seed oil.
