Fagret Hair Tonic & Pomatum
Lucella (Lucy) Thouvenin was born in France around 1830. By 1850, she had moved to Baltimore and married Francis Fagret (a Carpenter). Between 1853 and 1880 she was listed as a Ladies Hairdresser. In 1880, she also had a boarder named Victor Devouges, who was a R.R. Clerk. She later married him and that was how the name L. Fagret Devouges came about. She was listed that way in 1890, as well as on the bottle below. Apparently, the Devouges family had quite a background in the hair business as well, and it is possible that their hair business actually dated back to 1810.

Victor H. & Bernard L. Brun, of Baltimore registered this brand name "FAGRET" as a trademark for "Hair Tonic and Pomatum" in 1911. They said that they had been selling the brand since 1850. Bernard registered the symbols shown below in 1912. At that time he claimed the symbols had been in use since 1810.
