J. Lloyd, of Harleigh, Penn., registered this brand name as a trademark (#7,388) for a Hair Restorer in 1879. The picture shown was also part of the trademark. It was described as being a man hanging from a tree limb by his long hair, with an ass running away in the background. Lloyd indicated that he had just started to using the symbols that year.
In 1881, there was an article in the Hazelton Sentinel stating that John Lloyd was resigning from his post as Superintendent of mines for Coxe Bros & Co. at Gowen, ... so he could locate in Wilkes-Barre and devote his time to manufacture and sale of Lloyd's Celebrated India Cream and the Absalom Hair Restorer. Both Wilkes-Barr and Hazelton are towns in Pennsylvania.
